To those sonographers who have a higher education in ultrasound , such as BSC, AND MASTER DEGREE and wants to come to canada. and to those who asked me in regard to Ultrasound practitioners in Canada.
And to those who e mailed me and asking me about the job market here in Canada….
HERE IS MY ADVICE,
In canada they treat us like techs no one cares if you have master degree , I have my master in medical us and 35 y of ULTRASOUND experience with all moralities , peads vascular etc.. and I FACE lots of jealousy IN WORK PLACE ,Some want hire us due to over qualifications!!! or they give you an excuse cause YOU DONT BELONG TO THE Union!
Some supervisors are afraid to hire you , so you dont take over there jobs. as 90% of Canadians sonographers has only diploma or BA , some has BSC degree IN ULTRASOUND.and some with Bsc in diagnostic Imaging 2 years us and 2 years other modality .
BSC IN ULTRASOUND do not exist in canada .
WE only have 2 years diploma and 3 years BA.\
OR 2 YEARS IMAGING and 2 years us mix degree in some PROVINCES.
Canadian ultrasound school dont even teach MSK. just basic .
many graduates dont even know how to do peads and MSK until we teach them at work place.
You will have a hard time to find a job IN Canada , and you might find part time or locum.
the best market for those who want to leave over seas now is Australia and newzealand .
IN USA there are 18 states thats recognize the MSC us practitioner where you can open your own clinic and hire the radiologist .
But that will never happen in canada until at least 100 years from now.
Canada is very backwards and behind when they deal with these issues .
I started this discussion since 1985 to separate sonographers and make our self like physiotherapist who can open their own clinics.
Many other sonographers startedalso back in 1982 but we all got no where ,some got fired , some never been hired againdue to this politics of sonography .
Most of us let it go and moved on with our life’s, thats why I moved to over seas for 12 years to work in Japan, south korea, Singapore, Brunei , middleast, Australia. etc..
My advise to THOSE WHO WANT TO COME HERE to stay where you are.
If you are happy with your work, go do your PHD and find teaching jobs , you apply to SAIT ,NAIT and other ultrasound schools.
THESE COLLEGES NEEDS PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO TEACH THE NEW GENERATIONS . also try Mohawk college mac master university in Hamilton Ontario. Or so many USA ultrasound colleges.
I was the first Canadian sonographer to obtain my MSC in ultrasound but who cares in this part of the world, They never count your goodness and great achievements that you have done , discoveries or research papers, but they are always ready to jump at you for any little mistake you do, and back bites you like a rats .
The market is flooded by new sonographers looking for jobs, and trust me in my clinic I found at least 2 cases of MISSED pathology that was missed BY other clinics every day.
I collected hundreds of MISSED pathology example to do a case study about this issue , and to find where is the most missed pathology in the body, why and how can we fix it.
I am working on this paper for some time now.
Many missed Pathology like adrenal tumors, liver tumors in segment 7 and 8 and 4a, 4b. arm dvt, ,parathyroid masses, spleen masses, cbd stones, pancreatic masses, renal masses AML, BLADDER MASSES , psoas muscle abscess and the list goes on for these missing pathology mostly due quantity over quality work , rush , and lack of scanning time
So please think and plan before you move to Canada as many returned back and lost money and time ………wish you all the best and welcome to Canada
