A Demon in Texas
by Joe Alfaro
I rarely tell anyone about this because it makes me feel so strange, scared and a bit crazy. But I feel that it needs to be told.
1997, Mission,Texas. I was working along my brother and my uncle at a construction site, which my stepfather was directing. We sat around in a circle during break time and started conversing over an eerie account that happened two days earlier in Mexico City. The account was over a witch that was filmed harassing Mexican Police officials. (This video is out there.) It was on video only a few seconds before it leapt into the darkness of the night sky. We continued to make fun of the subject and came up with the conclusion that it was a hungry coyote trying to get a meal.
I then proceeded to share that I did not believe in the supernatural, and that I had in many previous occasions, tried to contact the spirits of the dead. And failed miserably. My brother shared the same story, with the twist of trying to sell his soul to the devil. My uncle did so as well. We all failed at the attempt to gain something, by losing something as precious as your soul. Now I know that a soul cannot be sold, but it CAN most certainly be lost. We mocked the devil and questioned his existence by jokingly calling him another “hungry coyote.” I will never question anything of the sort, ever again.
That night I woke up in the middle of the night. Not sure what time it was, but everyone in the house was asleep. My wife laid at my right and my newborn child laid in his crib. It was a hot night as they usually are in Texas. The wind blew in the window at the top of the bed rest. The pale-white, transparent curtains bloated with the gust of air and as they retracted, seemed to move in slow motion. The crickets outside went quiet. The wind stopped and the air seemed still. I felt a very relaxing feeling come over me as if someone was saying, “Don’t be scared”. As I laid in this feeling of comfort, I heard a growling voice. When I say growling, I don’t mean that voice you make to try to scare someone. This voice was something that cannot be duplicated, and that I have never heard before and I pray to God, will never hear again. It was a growl that sounded like a mixture of a calm lion, an angry bear and a scared cougar. But at the same time, translated into a language which I understood entirely, in a deeper sense of understanding. Hard to describe in words, but if feelings could be exchanged, that would do it. No words, just growling, which I understood. It said, “Tell me what you want.”
With serenity over me and my thoughts, I quickly concluded and understood what this was a demon. And with the same calmness over me, my thoughts weighed the consequences of my reply and without a doubt I responded, “I want you to go away.” In an instant, the wind returned, the air moved and the crickets where heard. And at the same time.
My realization of what just happened hit me like a brick in the face. Cold chills ran up my entire body and my hands and feet shook. I tried to pray that night, and I believed. The next day, I told my uncle about it and he laughed. Although he works in construction, he has a Masters in criminal justice and psychology in Mexico. So he’s the type to never believe. He said I was hearing things and my mind was playing tricks due to psychological factors involving the previous conversation. That night the voice visited him. All he said was that it called his name out, as if it was roll-call. He believes now, but refuses to talk about it. Although we both commented on the occurrence, my brother was ignorant to the incident.
He came the following day to my house with an account to be an exact duplicate of my uncle’s occurrence. We believe in God. And thus, believe in demons. Demons can take your life, but they would rather destroy it and laugh at God’s creation.
Black-Eyed Thing
by KJ
In my family, I’m the youngest, being 15, and it’s just my mom, dad, and me in our house. I have four older brothers, but they’re all married and living away from home. I, for some reason, am the earliest person to wake up in our house, sometimes at around 6:30. The whole house was dark and quiet, save the monotonous hum of the refrigerator. I walked into the living room to turn on our Christmas tree, seeing as how I’m the only one who does. I turned it on and the room glowed an unearthly color, I suppose from the tree alone, but I have no idea.
Right after I turned the lights on, I felt this horrible feeling that someone or something was watching me. I didn’t even want to turn around for fear of someone there. I did anyway. Standing under the arch to our living room was this “thing” – it was like this really tall man just staring at me, but the creepy thing was, its eyes were totally black. They glimmered in the light for what seemed years.
The Christmas tree lights suddenly flickered and buzzed strangely and the smoke detectors all went off, letting out an earsplitting screech throughout the house, and the “thing” was gone. My mom woke up from the beeping and suddenly all the smoke detectors simultaneously turned off. I went to check the area around which the “thing” stood and there were these huge footprints with claw-like toes in the carpet, and the carpet was perfectly white. The footprints are still there and my mom thinks it’s just a trick, but she never saw what I saw, and it’s burned into my memory just like the footprints burned into the carpet.
