The UAE leadership model
R.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
- In previous article we talked about UAE leadership and the the Achievement of H.R.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The vice president ,Prime minister and Ruler of Dubai, has overseen the development of numerous projects in Dubai including the creation of a technology park and a free economic zone,
- Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, the Dubai International Finance Centre, the Palm Islands and the Burj Al Arab hotel and many projects that help UAE progress, annovation, investments, leadership and great vision to all UAE people. and now I will point out the new generations of leaderS , and I will start with ;
- R.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
He is the second of 13 kids to his father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai- the prime minister of UAE. In 2008, he was appointed hereditary Crown Prince of Dubai.
He was educated in Dubai at the Rashid School for Boys and at the Dubai School of Government. He attended Sandhurst Military Academy in the UK. He graduated from there in 2001. He later attended the London School of Economics where he took several specialized training courses in ‘Economy’.
In 2009, he was appointed as chairman of the Dubai Executive Council; he is a member of the Dubai Sports Council, and the Dubai Autism Centre and is also head of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid establishment for Young Business Leaders.
Initiatives he has launched include the “Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart Government Programme”, in 2013. The initiative aimed to lay down the foundation for a ‘smart’ government, making the government more accessible to the citizens of the UAE through the use of technology. This initiative is hugely successful.
He loves photography (check out his Instagram page if you don’t believe me) so much so that he founded the Hamdan International Photography Award; (HIPA) in 2011. Last year, the total prize money was $120,000. The award is spread out over five different categories, last year the categories included: ‘Happiness’, ‘wildlife’ and ‘father and son’.
He took a gold medal in a 160 km endurance ride after competing against a total of 227 riders, representing 41 countries. He is also a passionate free-diver (a difficult form of underwater diving that relies on the diver’s ability to hold their breath) and does everything from swimming and cycling to snowboarding, running and tennis.
Falconry is an integral part of Emirati cultural heritage. But, due to the amount of construction around Dubai and a loss of desert land, the sport has become de-popularised in recent years. He has been doing his utmost to make sure the sport lives on and, each year between December and May, young Emirates are being encouraged to take part in racing ‘captive bred falcon’ competitions.
Everything from wing walking, flyboarding, zip lining past the Burj, flying in an Airbus A380, taking a selfie from the top of the Burj Khalifa, diving with elephants, trekking on glaciers – if it sounds terrifying, he has done it. From Europe to the States and New Zealand; he has seen it all, and he keeps his loyal followers updated with his adventures on Instagram and Snapchat wherever he goes.
H.R.H, nick name is Fazza; why the nickname Fazza you ask? When he first started to write Nabati poetry (Nabati is a local form of Arabic) he published using the name ‘Fazza’ which is a reference to a legendary Arab knight, that who help others in need and protect them. Of his poetry he says…
My identity and poetic character, through which I humbly attempt to rekindle joy in the hearts of people, alleviate their suffering in my own simple way. I express their hopes and aspirations. His has written poetry for his Mother, Dad and, most recently, released a poem on the passing of his brother.
Now from this I can see the leadership quality with his love and dedication to his land and his people, with his skills, education, leadership, wide range of hobbies and commutation skill,
he can relates to all levels of people beside his background in economy and finance he will be following his father great leadership to keep UAE progressive, safe from extremism, challenge the process ,model the way, enable others to act and innovates, encourage and promote investments and keep the people happy with peaceful solution .
From my perspective, a leader is that individual who has presence, knowledge, the ability to communicate, a moral compass, strong ethical values, concerned for those within their organization and the ability to analyze and act on the dynamics around his/ her organization.
They must envision and self-confidence. We have all seen outstanding leaders and individuals who have fallen short lived and placed in leadership positions.
Leaders must come with a moral integrity, vision and encourage doing the right thing at the right time.
The political leader must have Service mindedness and hold himself accountable to the people whom he wants to lead, one who love progress, trades, investment, improving his people economy and in the same time keeping their culture intact, avoid wars , and be strong against extremism and fanatics.
Other countries do have oil, gas, minerals , rivers but most are without great leadership that brought wars and destruction to thier countries an people. Because they encourage the culture of hate and wars, fanatics and extremism flourish in such environments leading to defestated result to the country and the people.
From these quotation and words that was spoken by H.R.H the prime minister of UAE, and the Ruler of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , he said these words in different occasion , and it shows the deep love , respect and kindness to his people and towards peace , his true commitment toward success and excellence, achievements and innovation, trade and finance and the great leadership quality to seek solutions, and stop fanatics for the good of all people , and I want to share some of his quotes;
- -“There is a world of difference between a leadership that is based on love and respect, and one that is based on fear.”
- -“The race for excellence has no finish line.”
- -“Failure is not falling to the ground; it is remaining there once you have fallen and the greatest failure is when you decide not to stand up again.”
- -“Our job is to provide an environment that unlocks women’s potential – one that protects their dignity and femininity, helps them create the necessary balance in their lives, and values their talents and potential. Given this environment, I am confident that women will perform nothing short of miracles.”
- -“An easy life does not make men, nor does it build nations. Challenges make men, and it is these men who build nations.”
- -“Today’s Arab crisis is not one of money, men, morale, land or resources … The real crisis are rather one of leadership, management and perennial egotism.”
- “I believe that positive energy and optimism help us to take up any challenge in life and to succeed in even the most difficult tasks. I also believe that positive energy is contagious: we can transmit it to others.”
- “A true leader is one who creates a favorable environment to bring out the energy and ability of his team. A great leader creates more great leaders, and does not reduce the institution to a single person.”
- -“To take risk and fail is not a failure. Real failure is to fear taking any risk
- “It is such a beautiful life, but many people spend it worrying, burdened and frowning. You can easily see the beauty of life in the laughter of a child, the tenderness of a mother, the smile of a friend or the love of a compassionate wife.”
- -“Good leadership puts the interests of the community as a whole before those of any specific group. Credibility of leadership can only be established through action and not words.”
- -“Change or you will be changed: leaders who neglect the good of their people will be forsaken. Leadership is a service, not a gateway to privilege.”
