April Update
Hello,

I hope you and yours are well and safe. These are challenging times for everyone. In the span of a few weeks, life has changed dramatically for all Albertans as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, the Government of Alberta released a listing of essential services in the province and we are thankful to be counted among them. Nature still goes on, even in light of a pandemic, and already thousands of birds are making their way back home to Alberta. And though most people are doing their part to stay at home and flatten the curve, the hazards to our local wildlife remain.

To ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, and community, we have temporarily suspended all on-site and public awareness volunteers until April 30th, 2020 and will reassess accordingly before that date. Fundraisers and scheduled events for April have been cancelled or will be rescheduled as possible.

Our patients continue to receive care daily by our animal care staff, and the remainder of our team is working from home. We have put strict measures in place to ensure that we can continue to safely admit animals into our care.

Already we have seen an increase in patient admissions compared to last year, and we know our busiest season is still a couple of months away.

Like everyone, we are taking every day as it comes and planning long-term is challenging in the light of COVID-19.  We will continue to do our best to ensure that AIWC stays operational, and we are confident that with your support, we will get through this pandemic and be stronger for it. Please consider donating today in support of wildlife in need, every little bit truly helps.

Thank you for your continued support during this crisis.

Take care,

Holly Lillie
Executive Director.

AIWC Updates
This Northern saw-whet owl was admitted into our care a few days ago after being found on the ground in a parking lot. We suspect he was hit by a car.

He is suffering from head trauma and an injury to his left shoulder, so for now he is undergoing cage rest and his left wing is bandaged to better support it. You can support this owl’s care by donating today.
