SARA’S BATH BOMBS AWAY!

Watching water fizz, and change color are so exciting to a child as well as a grown woman who loves bath
time almost as much as her little girls. Being a practical and earth loving consumer
I often find many of the store variety bath products overpriced and full of perfumes,
chemical agents, and additives. My eldest daughter has very sensitive skin and has a tendency
towards allergic reactions from everything and anything she touches and or uses on her epidermis
. She can’t use bubble bath, so homemade DIY Organic bath bombs are a perfect addition
to bath time fun.

Through many trials, ups and downs and myriad of ingredients my children and
I often found ourselves being joyful guinea pigs.
I did happen to find a recipe that worked great, and didn’t seem to have any reactions on
my daughters sensitive skin as well as smelled great and was made with natural products.

The proportions of ingredients were pretty simple, but mixing it takes a bit of practice.
Once you figure it out, it’s super fun and easy to get creative. The limits are endless,
depending on what you want to use them for.
In a glass bowl mix your baking soda and citric acid.
1 cup baking soda to ½ citric acid makes a great fizz.
Add your citric acid first, being sure to break up all the lumps before adding the baking soda.
In a separate bowl melt 2 Tbsp coconut oil, and add in your fragrances and food coloring,
if you desire. I do use essential oils in mine but as long as it’s safe, you could use, or not
use whatever you choose for scent and coloring.

Mix your wet ingredients in very slowly, if you pour too fast or don’t stir enough,
it will start to fizz and you will need to start over. Be sure to scrape along the sides when you mix
as well.
Your mixture should resemble damp sand and clump together when you squeeze it in your
hand. If you need more moisture you can add some witch hazel from a spray bottle.
If you add too much moisture,  your bath bombs will blister when they dry, so add small amounts
at a time. They will still work, they just don’t look as nice.
Firmly press the mixture into the molds. Hard molds such as metal or plastic work better so you
can really press it in. Squeeze the two sides together.
Gently separate sides and remove your bath bomb.
If it crumbles when you remove them from the mold, empty the mold back in the bowl and
add witch hazel.

Allow to dry for at least 48 hours before use.

This mixture can be used without the coconut oil to make shower Fizzies when you have
a stuffy nose. Just add a tsp of eucalyptus and spray with witch hazel for moisture.
Wearing rubber gloves, press your mixture into half a mold so it drys flat on one side.
Gently tap on the back of the mold to remove the Fizzies.  Allow to dry for at least 24 hours then
place on shower floor. The hot water will activate the Fizzie releasing the eucalyptus clearing
your sinuses.

You can also make foot and body soak bombs by adding ½ a cup of Epsom or
Himalayan bath salts and another 1/2 Tbsp of melted coconut oil. Use ½ a mold for foot soaks.

The fun of bath bombs have taken away the struggle of getting the kids into the tub.
One less disagreement in the day makes such a difference, and  we all know we have
enough things to deal with, by the end of the day, we just want peace and quiet.
Hopefully this recipe brings some peace and quiet to your day as well.
