Do you believe hearing whispering voices can be a sign of a visitor from the other world? Here’s my little story:
I was up one night playing a video game. Everyone else was asleep and out of nowhere, I hear really faint whispering behind me, which only lasted for 1-2 seconds. It wasn’t the video game and like I said, no one else was up. I’ve heard what I think sounded like whispering at work too the following day. I thought it was the radio at first, but it wasn’t. Again, it was brief. It’s been I think 2 days now and haven’t heard anything since. And other than the following sentence, I’ve never heard unexplained whispering like this before.
To add more to the possibility of it being paranormal, I’ve heard whispering in our kitchen a couple years ago when no one was up but me. And my brother’s alarm clock (which belonged to my deceased grandparents, who lived here for a long time) went off by itself. I heard it as it came on and my brother wasn’t home. It a as full blast and the alarm was set to ‘off’ and it wasn’t even the time the alarm was set for. Oh and the mini-grandfather lock we have (which hasn’t worked for a long time) has chimed once out of nowhere, while my brother and I were rearranging the living room furniture one late night. Although we didn’t touch the clock at all while rearranging.

I think I have mentioned the problem with the clocks before in another thread, but figured I’d post it here too. As I see it there are two explanations to “hearing voices”.
One is the well known auditory hallucination. (perceiving sounds without true auditory stimulus). This may be associated with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia or mania.
There is also the EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) type of hearing voices. EVP has been described as auditory pareidolia. (A well known psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant).
Never EVER has it been proven that hearing voices has something to do with “ghosts” or “spirits”.
As I see it there are two explanations to “hearing voices”.
One is the well known auditory hallucination. (perceiving sounds without true auditory stimulus). This may be associated with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia or mania.
It’s also associated with other, less extreme, conditions such as anxiety and tiredness, Hazzard.
A little story – many years ago, when I was a young computer operator I spent a whole weekend partying. Didn’t sleep for probably 56+ hours. Went to work on Monday and, as I was alone in the computer room going through the print-outs on the consoles (real paper print-outs, this was many years ago!!) I was woozy from tiredness and swear I heard other people in the room with me. There were not.
The OP, perhaps, spent a long time playing on the video console, was tired, and suffered an auditory hallucination through the combination of both the stimuli and the condition.
Let’s look at the non-paranormal explanations first: the obvious explanation would have to be mental illness. There are quite a few that are associated with hearing voices. However, not everyone that hears voices should be automatically chalked up as mentally ill. Leonardo touched upon another, probably more common reason the average person might hear voices. Being overly tired or stressed is commonly associated with hearing voices, and even seeing things from the corner of one’s eye. I know that when I have major insomniac episodes, I tend to see and hear things that I know cannot be. Another reason for this might be a misinterpretation of a sound one is actually hearing. If one is playing a video game, music, or watching TV (I especially notice this on high quality sound systems), those sounds that one would not normally notice that are layered intend to be more noticable. For example, if you are listening to Pink Floyd’s “Final Cut” album, and it’s loud and on a quality sound system, you will hear voices in the background as well as other sound effects that normally wouldn’t be noticable. Sidenote: I choose this particular album as an example because while this is common on other Floyd albums, it is less of an expectation on this one, even for many fans.
This doesn’t mean that you actually aren’t hearing something ghostly. However, unless someone else is hearing the same things or you can record it, there is no sure way of telling. Easier said than done since I realize these things happen unexpectedly, but it’s the best way to determine and end the necessary second guessing.
I have never heard whispering voices. A few days before my grandmother died I heard her say “Oh that is just terrible!” in her bedroom, I thought she might be talking to my son so I opened the door to see what they were doing. She was sound asleep! The voice was loud enough to hear thru a closed door. My husband heard it also. It sounded like her voice to me but she was clearly in a deep sleep when I walked in…
Not to break your spirit, but people often talk in their sleep with loud voices. Sometimes they just say something like “Guralbhlargh…!!” and sometimes, well for an example; My mom tried to wake me up the other day…

You are correct, Leonardo.
My point is, this is one of those times that Occams razor should be applied… and where ghosts and spirits should be on the very bottom of the list… if on it at all.

Yes could have been. I had never heard anything out of her like that in the 30 years i lived with her though! My cousin now lives in that house, she said she heard a man and woman laughing in the room where she was one day, home alone. The dog heard it too I have no idea what it is. I have heard her talk in her sleep before and it sounded nothing like that day. Not saying its impossible just makes me wonder.
A thought for all:
If you they have to tell you they’re not a scam they probably are.
My suggestion is go see a doctor.
I’ve been overly tired or really stressed out and thought I’d heard voices before. It’s even happened when I was all jacked up on caffeine too. Guess my Spidey sense was on uber-aware.
Years ago I worked in an office, it was just after my lunch break and I was alone in the office, I was almost falling asleep at my desk when I heard this voice wisper in my ear “wake up”, I got such a fright! it never happened again though
Hmm….Interesting.Always people report cases that they hear their own names being called out in night. If such complex words are heard then can whispers be any different? The pinna region of your ears are actually a vestigial part of your body which means that they don’t have any purpose in human as such but they have a purpose in other relative organisms. They serve as sound enhancers and like earlier said though they donot have any purpose but sometimes in some people they enhance the sound and thus it may resemble like other talking which is giving you this sensation
Thanks

So many times I have wanted to say something when a believer pushes an offer like that.
Fatal, when you are in silence do you hear a ringing sound? This is a condition that can cause certain auditory paranoid hallucinations.
There’s also the remote possibility that you’re hearing God–just not all that well, apparently. But maybe that’s a good thing. It would be worse if you could understand the voice. Then you might be a potential saint, and nothing will screw up your life worse than sainthood. If I were you, I’d only get concerned if the whispering ever becomes distinct enough that you start making out words and understanding what the voice is saying, especially if the voice starts giving you commands. Refer to the story of Joan of Arc for an object lesson in why it’s never a good idea to listen to a disembodied voice, particularly if it’s claiming to be God.
from baby age to aprox 5rs old, my 14yr old son would have full conversations and play with “the little boy and girl”, even though I couldn’t see them.over the years we have had various strange things happen around our house.last year whilst doing the dishes I had a feeling someone was behind me.I turned around, to see a girl aged about 5 yrs old fade away.now.to the real point of my story.last week I were sitting on the lounge room couch on my laptop, my son was in his bedroom.he came out and asked me why were I walking outside his door.i told him I hadn’t moved off the couch and it wasn’t our dog as he was in front of the heater, asleep.he swore he heard footsteps outside his door.the next day, again I were in the lounge room, son in his bedroom.i destintcly heard a male voice, not too loud, but audible.I went into my sons room to see what he’d said.he hadn’t said a word.the tv was off, no radio was on.i swear I heard a young male voice.this is the terrifying part-.last night I were woken up by a vibrating sound, coming from the side of my bed.it scaredme, then I heard whispering coming from my bedroom doorway.i then heard it in the middle of my room, then in the corner.i were absolutely terrified, i froze in fear.i could hear the whispering, as good as if a person was in my room.the only word I remember being said was “pardon”.the fear I felt was unbelievable.i knew something was in the room with me.i don’t know what this spirit wants.i were too scared to barely breathe last night, let alone ask what it wanted.I am not looking forward to going to sleep tonight, i am frightened of having another “encounter”.oh, also last week, my son went into the bathroom and started to run the bath.the towel on the towel rack started swinging and came off the rail.my son ran out petrified, as white as a piece of paper.we are now both very scared, we do know when and what will happen next.
Forget being a believer or skeptic- being a skeptical believer or believing skeptic provides for much more interesting discussion.
